I just got a line in a 42” deck (shown below) for $150. I need a little help here as I’ve never bought any attachments. Is this a decent deal?

Hello
So it's hard to say from a picture if that's a good deal or not. $150 in general for that deck is high to me. For $25-$75 I look for them to have 3 good spindles that spin, little to no holes, etc.
Does the deck come with a hanger? Do you already have a hanger?

All said and done if you find it impossible to find a good deck in your area then it leaves you little choice and maybe you pay a bit more.

I would still offer 50$ for the deck. Maybe he will negotiate to 100$

Good luck

Thank you, I appreciate your knowledge and assistance. He assures me that all spindles are there and spin freely. I don't have a hanger and wasn't aware that i needed one. I will inquire about the hanger. Would you mind sending me a link to or a photo of the hanger that I need so I can make sure he has exactly what I need to mount the deck?

From the pic you posted, and what your saying, I think you also need the mule drive.

This is the part that connects too front of tractor and has 2 pulleys. The belt for mower rides on those pulleys. It is also what tensions the belt.

Before we get ahead of ourselves here.. We should confirm that the PTO is on front of engine and that it operates.

Then we need to find you a mule drive and hanger.

If you need help verifying the pto is there and works just let us know

Wow thanks for the insight, I believe the PTO on the front of the engine works correctly. I will need to verify that this evening when I get home. I'm pretty sure I know what you are referring to when you speak of the PTO on the front of the engine. There is a pulley mounted at the front of the engine that is engaged by the small lever that's located just to the right of the steering wheel etc.. Is that indeed what you are referring to?

Also, I have inquired to see if this guy has to hanger and mule drive. I suspect he does as I've seen pictures of his lot and it is extensive.

He also tells me that he has most implements for these machines and a factory hydraulic lift for sale as well. I'm considering the lift and front blade. Do you know if the lift would operate my rear blade as well as the front blade?

Again, I definitely appreciate your assistance!
I realize I am asking a ton but as a single dad and full time caregiver of my elderly mother I don't have much time for research and you guys are the best resource that I've found. Oh and I have a full time job...

Yes. Pulley on front of engine is PTO. At first glance to someone who has not operated one of these, It may appear to work backwards. Engaged is when lever moves away from engine. Disengaged is when it moves towards the engine.

If your seller is selling mule drive, hanger and deck for 150$ and its in good shape then it is not a horrible price.

Hydraulic lift is a nice feature and it will lift front and rear implements. They can get expensive however. There is also a helper spring or lift assist that can be added to your mechanical lift. It makes lifting attachments much easier. As it is all mechanical it will be less expensive than a hydraulic set up would be.

BTW, Don't worry about asking questions. That's sorta what OCC is here for! :beerchug:
