Mower Deck Tune-up
1) Have a 1641 w/48" deck. Underside of deck is somewhat rust-pitted and begins the clogging-build up process immediately after cleaning, to the point I'm dropping deck & cleaning every 2-3 mows, even after longer dry stretches. I've tried painting and oiling to keep grass from sticking.
Any suggestions on minimizing build-up? 2) Need to replace sleeve bushings on casters - where's a good place to look? 3) Do the blades need to be in certain positions relative to each other? 4) How often do you replace blades? Mulching Blades available? Yeah, I know that would make #1 problem even worse. TIA |
I like to use PAM (or something like it) cooking spray on the bottom of my mower decks. It does help to keep grass from sticking to the underside of the mower deck. When you mow can make the difference too....I try to mow when the grass dry.
Mower blades-I use Oregon brand mower blades on my mower. The should have mulching and regular style mower blades. The price is around same for Oregon blades. I replace blades when the cutting edge/flat area is more than half gone. How you sharpen your blades will affect the life and how well they cut. I use a sanding flap disk on my 4 1/2 grinder. the sanding flap disk makes the least amount of heat when you sharpen a mower blade. |
