Cub 129 Automatic Release Valves Sticking
 

Hey all,

Sometimes when I shut the tractor off it will free wheel easily. Other times it won't want to budge. Anybody else run into this? Hydro works great overall. I searched around, but didn't find much.

I'm looking to find out if this is normal, or whether I shouldn't tow it when it feels stuck.

You shouldn't really tow it period. And if you really have to only at slow walking pace and with relief valve lever in tow mode.

Why shouldn't you tow it? My coil crapped out on a tractor parade last weekend. We towed it behind a sxs for a mile or so at about 5mph. Worked fine after I fixed the coil.

My issue is actually that it starts to creep sometimes when turned off. The brakes don't work currently. So, sometimes it holds and other times it starts to creep. Yes, I know I need to fix the brakes.

It specifically says not to tow in the operation manual. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time it breaks down.

You might have "hydro creep". This has appeared in many posts and threads already. Pretty easy fix. Just make sure that your rear wheels are up off of the ground and that your tractor is safely secured when you work on and fix it.

I would say hydro lurch and hydro creep are actually describing 2 different things that both describe conditions while running not while shut off. Hydro lurch or the feeling that just a little movement of hydro handle makes machine jump hard is usually a worn trunion. Hydro creep which is usually used to describe " I'm in neutral at idle but the tractor creeps a little forward" this is usually caused by linkage out of adjustment.

If you tow too fast or two far you will do catastrophic damage to the hydro.
among some of the damage, you will pull the slippers off the pistons.
Tow no faster than a toddler walks and no farther.
If it works now, consider one of it's nine lives removed :biggrin2:

Agreed George. Had I known the perils I wouldn't have risked it.

To clarify, the tractor "creeps" when it isn't running, but is on a hill. It typically rolls very easily, but sometimes I shut it off and it is stuck. When running the hydro unit performs great, and returns to neutral with a press of the brake pedal.

I did some research and reading on the hydro unit, but I couldn't find a hydraulic schematic. I work in the valve industry, and am curious to see what type of valve they are as well how the release circuit works.

3 of my hydro tractors do similar thing. If I try to roll more than a couple feet they start to hold back some.

There's always the brake..... Lock the pedal down when parked on sloped surface.
