Not another one... a 125

Don't ask my why, but I went and bought another Cub. OK. I know why. I was looking for a SGT. Saw some "not so nice" specimens that were way to pricey for what they were.

Then I came across this little 125. Thoughts rolled through my head that I dislike swapping attachments and this would make a dedicated mower, snow blade, or throwing machine. Orrrrrrrrrr, it might make a nice little front loader. (nothing monstrous like you see on youtube)

Anyway, let me present to you my newly acquired 125.
It came complete with a (slightly tattered) Windbreaker and what I think is a 48" mower deck. And I talked seller to throw in a QA42A snow thrower. :bouncy:

The engine appears to be a later model K-301A. (not an AS) I don't know if it was a new replacement or came from a donor transplant. After cleaning the sediment bowl and carburetor she fired up and runs well. A little hard starting but she is non-smoker.

I miscalculated the Windbreakers height and wound up cracking the windscreen winching her into the trailer. :bash2: I ended up removing the cab to get it in. A little plexi and all will be good.

After blowing the grass off the deck I'm not sure it is 48". The guide wheels are mounted like the deck on my 127 but I noticed the belt covers are smaller and mount differently. No matter though.

I almost forgot. Look at the tow out and camber. The seller mentioned there had been something wrong with the LH spindle and put one from another model. Totally wrong spindle.

Now for the good part... pictures. These are from the sellers ad. I'll post more once I find the cord for my camera.

You did well... that's a nice rig!

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

It looks like a 48" deck from where I sit, but that is from a distance. Try a magic eraser on your cab and it will look like new again! Nice find. The 125 is said to be the best IH cub built by many collectors. Sometimes we find them and sometimes they find us!

Thx jbrewer.

Thx, cub123.

I did get most of the loose crud of today using simple green. Still some staining and fading in spots. I'll try the magic eraser method.

I have some ideas for repairing the windows. with some judicious measuring and concave the edges the acrylic should make a snap fit into the door frames. For the rear curtain a some "weld on 3" adhesive may do the trick.

Parts are starting to arrive. Acquired an 82 series axle from an OCC member here and wheels/tires to fit are on there way from Patton.
:biggrin2:
Still looking for camera cord.

Nice find on the 125! Definitely my favorite series.

Are you going to install a 3 turn steering box? I see your other 2 have them. I was looking for one for my 105 but couldn’t find anything.

Thx Nato.
I probably will do the three turn steering gear just because it's easy to do and I like that it brings the steering wheel higher. It is especially helpful when you hang an attachment on the front.

Nice score! IMO, they are one of the best looking Cubs, and the cab is a nice bonus.

Alan, nice find. I'm curious to see how that 82 series axle looks/works on there. I didn't know that's what the axle was for, my 122 is loose in the pivot amd I'm thinking about doing the same swap on it, I have another 82 series axle. I'm going to look more at that when I get the other tractors out of my way and can get it in my garage to pull the engine, because she's a mosquito fogger and has a piston slap.
