Is my engine Series II ?

I just read this in another post....

"Cub Cadet did not start putting KT-17 Series II until serial number 726,125>."

My 782 tractor serial number is 2050601U731511

The engine has a tag but difficult to read:

Serial #1402336
Engine Spec 24302

What do I have?

Sounds like you just got lucky..... According to Tractor Data the 2 series KT-17 began at engine spec # 24,300. You are three away from the crap. To be sure, I would see what others here have to say!

Yes...That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. It sure does run nice for a 40 year old motor!

That is cool that you got a series II. Welcome to Only Cub Cadets.

Unless you have had it since new, there is always the possibility the engine has been swapped out multiple times.:bigthink:
Shoot us a pix of the oil filter area of the engine if it has one, specifically the area where the oil pressure sender is.

if it has a sender, or a pipe plug it is not a series I
Cooling shrouds with numbers ,oil filler plugs/caps, mean nothing as all interchange, so anything could of been changed, but the block will tell what it is.
It could even be MAGNUM if it has no ignition coil.:beerchug:

It does have an ignition coil......But I do not see an oil filter....but not sure where to look.

Also, can someone tell me where the voltage regulator is located?

Here is a quick video of the engine to show how I had to jump out the coil to get it running.

Here are two better videos of the engine

I think that is a series 2 with the oil fill gooseneck like you have. Wait for ol'George, he knows those engines well.

From what little I see in your video, it is a series II
like Oak said from the oil filler cap.
Since we need to not know more right now, it is good enough.
you prolly don'y have an oil filter, it would be on the right side near the front, by the PTO clutch, or remotely mounted with hoses attached.
The voltage regulator is under the intake manifold screwed on top of the fan/flywheel housing just to the rear of the carb.
It has a 3 wire push on plug, it is about 1-1/2" x 2x1/2":beerchug:

Using a flashlight and looking in through the grill, I can see that threaded plug that the series 2 engine should have. This and everything you added it looks like I lucked out on this engine.

BTW....can an oil filter be added to this engine?
