Factory installed engine in a 1450?
2 Attachment(s)
I've noticed in a lot of pictures that the oil dipstick tube for the Quietline series tractors were coming out of the block and up through the edge of the air shroud/muffler tin box. Mine is on the side of the block attached low on the crankcase, outside of that air shroud. Is there an explanation for the difference? Change in production run date wise? Indication that my engine has been changed? What was the engine tag number (spec number) that was stock when rolling out of the factory?

The most common engine for the 1450 was the Kohler K321AQS‐60291.
Cub Cadet did use the K321AQS‐60269 as well, maybe as a replacement. |
Mine could be a replacement, it has a .020 piston in it so someone has had the engine out before. Does the 60291 engine have the dipstick location coming through the air shroud tins? Curious of the matchup of different spec numbers relating to dip stick location. I could have an air shroud that is not from this engine??? Is there a listing of what the different spec numbers signify?

In looking at the Kohler K-321 Parts Manual, Kohler offered 10 different Dipsticks and Tubes for the K-321. The 60269 and 60291 had different tubes.
|
I wonder if both style engines with different dip stick tubes were offered on Quietlines from the factory. If both were used, just curious if they changed from a certain date forward or for another (or no particular) reason.
|
The dipstick change occurred at tractor serial number 584059 for the 1450
and at tractor serial number 582079 for the 1250. Looks like April 1976. I don't know why the change. |
Which way was the change? From up through the shroud to outside or the other way around?
|
Bill682, How did you determine the dip stick location change was from those serial numbers forward?
|
The parts breakdown shows the serial number break. The through the shroud is the later version.

Curious that in all the pics I see, the aluminum shroud has provisions for the later oil tube (half round notch). Almost like they were planning on the change, or that shroud was used for different applications? :bigthink:
