582 Cub Cadet Seat Safety Switch

I have an 1980 IH Cub Cadet 582. I’m having troubles figuring out why my seat safety switch doesn’t work. When I get off the tractor with the PTO engaged the engine and PTO stay running. I’ve checked wiring and the switch. Any ideas??

What do you mean you've "checked" wiring and switch? What exactly did you do to check it

I’ve ohm’d the wires from end to end on both wires. Not sure exactly if it’s wired correctly or not. This was my grandpas tractor so I don’t know if he changed anything. Does that switch shut the engine off or the PTO? Idk honestly.

The 582 Seat Switch should kill the engine if nothing is in the seat.

Alright that’s what I thought but it doesn’t do anything. What am I missing?

What does that mean ?? Are you saying the engine won't roll over or it rolls over but won't start ??

Will the 82 series keep running with nobody in the seat and the brake pedal locked down?

So what I’m trying to figure out is why the seat safety switch doesn’t work. It doesn’t kill the engine when you step off the tractor with the PTO switch on.

Somewhere under your seat there is, I would think, some sort of
plunger type switch. I think if you take some time with a meter, start checking
switches you will figure it out. Check continuity with switch closed or open.
I personally like the fact that my seat switch doesn't work, I truly hope
OSHA is not on this forum. Good luck

Any possibility the seat safety switch has been bypassed?
