Governor parts, no clue here

1 Attachment(s)
I been trying to figure it out since I put the 301 back together. Being I had to pull it apart again, I like to figure out the parts for the governor.

I am unable to see for sure in the cub cadet website parts image.

The shaft itself that comes out of motor with the lil arm on it that gov gear pushes on.

Between bushing nut and the arm, is there a spacer of some sorts? or a clip to hold it in the motor ?
I had a sleeve and put it on and seems to work fine with it, but something tells me its not right.

Any good image of parts layout for a 301 governor ??
The red is the spacer between block and arm ?????

thanks

That's correct.
The sleeve is what came from it when you took it apart I hope.
Length is specific.

The nut holds the sleeve in place and the sleeve holds the governor in place.
The sleeve also allows more play in the assembly during installation in a tight space.
You probably discovered that when you put it back together.

Did you reinstall the shim washer on the block stub before installing the governor?
Easily lost or forgotten when disassembling and then lost in the cleaning process.

Don't forget to gage the end play on the cam and shim to spec's to avoid knock,.

awsome so far so good..
BAD part................ what shim washer lol .. the shaft was fittin nice. if i had to say ... maybe 15 thousands end play. ill check it more closely..
does it fit inside the inside block hole ?
shim size?
the governor gear itself was never out. just the shaft/arm.

yeah the shim that came out with cam went rite back where it came out of. flywheel side i think it was on ..

Here is an image from the Paper Parts Manual.

The part numbers for these parts, vary with the "spec" number of the engine.

finsruskw 02-11-2021 01:05 PM

Spec for the cam end play is .005-.010"

If you did not have the governor out then disregard my comment on the bushing/shim behind it.

Curious as to why you had it apart that far then.

i took the governor nut and main shaft as i sent it to get borded out and i didnt want to leave anything sticking out to be broke.
tho i should have asked the guy. but one never knows. mistakes happen. then you have to fight the shop to fix stuff. less issues i guess..
