Looking at a 782 tractorCan a 1450 rearend be installed if it has the peerless rear?
I may be trading the 1042 for a 782 locally. Was just wondering if a 1450 rear would be able to be used if it has the peerless rearend in from factory. We are still in the negotiating stage and was curious..

Yes, it can be swapped. The 782 did not come with the peerless (pos) from the factory though. If it has one somebody put it in there for some immensely stupid reason.

Why would someone replace the Sunstrand tranny for the Peerless one? :bigthink:

Just to add some clarification here, the ONLY CCs that ever came with that rear are the 1100, 482, 582 Special, 580, 1204, 1604, and possibly one other I can't remember.

I misread that the 782 and the 582 had the same rears.I have a potential trader for the 1042 I got from my mom.The tractor has 2,675 hours on it but the motor was overhauled 2 years ago. It also has a series 2 motor as well as a black rearend in it. Also included is a set of rear weights, front hubcaps and mower deck(not sure on size though)that has been repaired. I am looking for a snow pushing tractor.I like the LT 1042,but I really have a small yard and don't need a mower. Here is the pics. Be honest, would you swap? I want to hear it run, make it move and see it before making a final decision..Give me your honest opinions before I make a decision....

I would trade in a second.:biggrin2.gif:

I agree with jbollis! I'd definitely trade, you will have a great tractor, by having the 782! :beerchug:

782 is 1000x the tractor that 1000 series LT is. With that many hours you may have a lot of loose moving parts to repair, but nothing out of the ordinary that you wouldn't have to replace on a lower-time tractor.

So,I took my trade tractor and loaded it onto the trailer and took a 45 minute trip to look at the 782 I received pics of. When I seen it in the driveway,it looked promising. Thanks to this site, I was armed with info that would help immensely. I was told the motor was a series 2 and was overhauled about 2 years ago. It had a black rearend and was in great shape. I located the tag on the motor and the serial number was 24193.I figured a series 1 right there. From the info here if it was a series 2,it would be greater than 24,200. Then he fired it up and it smoked pretty bad. Left a cloud about 10 ft around. That's where the story changed. He tells me it was over 5 years that it was overhauled and it had 50 hours on it since. Then I was told it had an issue and the tractor wouldn't run properly and they replaced the EGR valve(at first it was a 10 dollar part, then a 12 dollar part) and it's been fine since. I looked down on the top of the motor and immediately seen a hose clamp that was not tight on the hose at all. The tractor serial number was in the 716,000 area. I noticed the headlights weren't hooked very well and the screen as well as the grille was toast as well as the outer surround piece. Ultimately,I decided against it as I was concerned about the motor blowing up. I also did not get to see it move, but the deck moved up and down nicely. The deck was really welded up but that was not a concern as I want to push snow anyways with it. I just wish people would be more honest as I was. I told him exactly what was up with mine and that it is a nice tractor, just not what I need. So, the search continues. I am not looking for a flawless machine, just a reliable one like I am trying to trade.

Sorry, it didn't work out for you, Pat.
