102 not starting
102 not starting. I charged the battery and it started as normal. After about 10 seconds it stalled. Could not get it to start again.
I took off the carburetor and there was fuel in the bowl. I proceeded to take apart that carburetor and cleaned it with carb cleaner then blew air thru it with my air compressor. I changed the spark plug also. I drained the gas and added fresh gas. Went to start it and it still would not start. Then I took off the air cleaner and put some fuel into the carb and it started fine. Ran until the fuel I added was gone. Not sure what to do next. My carburetor has writing on it Carter model n |
Obviously, you have a Fuel Delivery problem. Did you check your "needle and seat" along with your float ??
:bigthink: |
I changed all the gaskets and the float needle. All the needles are clean and can see day.light thru them. Still not starting.
I have fuel in the fuel line and fuel in the carb bowl. What should I check next? I’m not a big engine fixer |
See if the fuel is turned on, If it is then you have a blockage in the fuel line or filter.

Or the float is sticking in the closed mode and/or not adjusted properly.
Needs to be nearly parallel to the carb body when held upside down. |

:GoodLuck: :beerchug: EDIT: No they weren't on the table. They were on top of a big box that I have under the table that holds the fenders for my 70. :buttrock: |
Neither one is adjusted properly in the picture, either that or the needle is missing on the right side one.
They should freely move up and down and stop parallel to the body. The needle and seat will hold it there when adjusted properly. The float rising in the body puts upward pressure on the needle forcing it into the seat and shutting off the fuel. |

First is "a short how-to for rebuilding Kohler carbs" https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ead.php?t=4376 Second is the "Kohler's Carburetor Reference Manual" https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=58326 And lastly is the "Kohler K Series Service Manual" https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ead.php?t=4646 |
I can eliminate any issue with the carburetor. I rebuilt the carburetor, changed the fuel line, changed the spark plug and the spark plug wire.
I can see and smell fuel when I try to start it. I tried spraying starting fluid too but that doesn’t start it. I took out the spark plug and confirmed I have spark there. I looked at the points and sanded them too. I can see a small spark but not sure if it needs to be stronger. The engine wants to turn over but just won’t start. |
Are you saying that the Engine won't roll over as normal ??
