147 Suction Tube
 

I am wanting to upgrade the suction tube to the later one piece style. The tube is 727-3008 which is available from cub cadet. But the fitting that goes into the pump, 727-3009, is not available. Is this a typical fitting that a hardware store would have or I could order from McMaster-Carr? Cub Cadet describes it as a: Union, 7/8-14 37 Deg Hyd Flared Tube Short Swivel.

Possibly salvage it from the old suction tube?

IIRR it is a regular hyd fitting you can find at the "parker store" near you.
I'll check one of my spare pumps in the morning.

I doubt you will find this in a local hardware store. As stated prior, you could go to a place that sells "Parker Fittings".

yes, it is a standard *37 fitting that accepts a standard 5/8" tube nut on one end and 7/16" thread with "O" ring that screws in the pump.
In a pinch, a tube union can be used, just by installing an "O" ring on the end that screws into the pump.

Any number of online suppliers as well as ebay, and as mentioned
"the Parker store" near you.
No you will not find it at blows or home cheepo or local hwd store.
Also try tractor supply, they have some Hyd. fittings.

Well I took off for the big city today and went to the biggest parker store in Cincinnati. I took the new 149 suction tube and one of the tubes with the fitting that screws into the pump on it from my 147. A seasoned counter man at Parker looked at it and said the fitting from the 147 was 7/8 but had an odd ball thread, maybe metric. I told him it was off of a 1971 IH and he said it is not a standard thread. He was super nice even gave me a nice real tree camo Parker tube store hat since he couldn't help me and I had driven so far to get there. He then steered me to the biggest hydraulic place in Cincinnati. A guy took the tubes to the back and 30 minutes later he came back out with a new fitting that would work with the 149 suction tube and said the fitting from the 147 tube was an oddball but they could remove the 147 fitting from the tube and weld it back to back to their fitting that would fit the 149 suction tube connector. He estimated it to cost between $75 and $85.
Confused, I chose not to make a decision. How could my 147 have a tubing connector with oddball threads? Before you start to tell me about a previous owner rigging it, let me tell you this. I am the original owner of the tractor and I am the only one who has ever worked on it. The only time the suction tube was removed previously was when I replaced the cork hydro/rear end gasket about 20 years ago. April 22 will mark the 50th anniversary of the day I bought it. I was only 14, but I remember it clearly. I helped to remove it from the krate and put the wheels and mower deck on it. (long story but at 14 I traded in a cub cadet original and gave $800 for it) I was the happiest cat in the barn. We took it home and I waxed the hood, fenders and the back of the seat that night. For its 50th year I may write a post about "My 50 years with a 147, a 3.5 acre lawn with 2 acres of hillside steeper than 40 degrees" My butt has rode on the side/edge of the fenders steering with one hand, more than in the seat. I teach math so for grins and giggles I figured out that I have driven the tractor more than 14,000 miles in my yard.
But back to the problem, I need to mow now and the tractor is in pieces. I guess I will give up on buying a new fitting. I see a rear end on ebay that I think has the fitting on it.

Here is a suction tube off of a 1440 that has the connector, will that connector work?

Is this the same connector? It is part number 927-3002 and is available. It says it is for a 1440, but seems to have another different suction tube.

Lets get on the same page:
Are you wanting the fitting that screws in the pump OR
the fitting that screws into the resavoir/rearend?
inotherwords the one about 1/2 way on the line you posted a pix of on ebay in your first post?
it is the fitting that receives the compression furrell and screwed into the resavoir/rear end.
If that one is the one you need, someone here might have one, if not then contact Floyds through ebay that you linked in your first post.
He is a large mower salvage yard and he just might list one on ebay for you.:beerchug:
Do you already have the suction line that you posted a pix of from Floyds?

Thinking I can't remember if the rearend/resavoir has a fitting that is threaded to accept the nut on the suction tube???

I have the compression fitting from my old tube to use on the part that goes into the rear end. What I need is the fitting that the tube use to attach to the pump. I would call it a double male fitting. It screws into the pump and the female connector on the tube screws onto it.

ok two things come to mind:
#1 your tube Ferrule is prolly not going to be reusable but the nut behind it is.
The ferrule should be available at a hwd. store.
The fitting in the pump should be
available unless you have something I'm not familiar with.
I'll go out in a bit and see if I can take some pix I can post for you,---- if I can figure out how to resize pix to post.

Do you have a thread pitch gauge? The only machinery company I know of that uses proprietary fittings is Kamatsu. And I bet International didn't use them for fittings.

Does the fitting use a shoulder O-ring? Or a washer with a rubber inner? A pic of the actual fitting you're looking for may help. Very strange that the Parker fellow wouldn't recognize it.
