2000 Series - Larger Tires for Deck Clearance?
I just picked up a one-owner 2206 with 505 hours on it. The machine is in really good shape overall with only a few cosmetic blemishes.
My biggest complaint is that the mower deck really doesn't raise much at all. It won't go above "5" on the lift handle, but I don't know if that's normal or not. However even with the wheels raised as high as they can be on the corners, they still seem to catch every other rock on the gravel driveway. The original front tires are almost slicks, so my thought was the forego the 16x6.50-8s and instead go for 18x7.50-8 tires to gain some much-needed clearance. The back tires are in decent shape, but I'm thinking about 25x10.50-12s or 26x12-12s to get the whole thing a bit higher. Any thoughts on this or anybody who's gone with bigger than stock on these 2000s? Thanks! |

Now for putting 26/12/12's on the back rims, that would cause you to have a very narrow tread contact patch with the ground. Super wide tires, narrow rims. I myself wouldn't go wider than the 10.50's you mention. Even so... You can/could gain a little more tire to ground contact by running lower tire pressure with the 10.50's, but the 12's nope. HTH :beerchug: Here's a link to a tire rim chart, but not sure what sizes are available for the newer stuff. https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...read.php?t=477 EDIT: I forgot too add that if you go with the taller sizes keep the amount being raised even. Going up 2" in the front to the 18's and 25's in the back keeps your deck even. |
First, welcome to OCC...... :Welcome2:

Having had similar problems on a 2000 series:
Deck raise handle can get bent, limiting it's range. You'll have to get under the fender pan to look into this. Plastic bushings on the deck frame wear esp on the right side; this will limit lift. Front hanger may need adjustment, or in my case had "flattened", had to put it in my press to restore proper angle and lift. |
Welcome, spent a lot of time on a similar 2185. It should go all the way up, probably a bent or out of adjustment linkage as indicated above.
