Only Cub Cadets - New Member, Old Tractors

A word of thanks to all the subject matter experts.

A few months ago I came into possession of a couple Cub Cadets, a 149 and a 782. They're barn finds from an old church friend who acquired them from his son. He didn't any of the histories but offered them to me. I've found all my service questions can be found previously posted on the OCC site.

The 782 wouldn't hold rear end hydro fluid. I filled it long enough to make sure the pump/transmission was good before disassembly. I found out that the 5/16x18 threaded cast molding for the bottom right corner on the rear casting was broken off. I broke the tractor in half and took the rear to a local machine shop and had them build up the metal and have it rethreaded ($125.00). I'm in process of collecting the remaining gaskets/seals for reassembly, parts should be here over the weekend. The next trouble I found was the M18 would run although it was only running on one cylinder. Removing the head I discovered someone had dropped a screw in the carb and it was stuck seated under the intake valve. After removing the valve the seat had moderately bad scarring. I polished/lapped it the best I could. It's much better but if I get all the bugs out of the tractor it'll probably need replacing.

The 149 didn't have any fire and I found out it had a bad coil. Got it running and discovered the manual PTO wouldn't engage. After drilling out set screws and disassembling the clutch it didn't have any friction plate at all. I've got all the necessary rebuild parts on order including those pointed set screws..

I haven't had a chance to look at the deck assemblies but they're next on list.

Slowly but surly I'm getting to the point where I'll have these old girls running again.

My main reason for posting again is to thanks all those before me that took time to document their processes. It's invaluable to have. I'm not much at video's or pictures but will try to post some updates after they're new and shiny again.
