1872 Front wheel bearings

Are the front wheel bearings sealed on front and back of bearing? I just ordered 4 new bearings (replacement for 941-3002) and only the outer side of bearing is sealed. I have not installed the new bearings, but I don't recall seeing a grease fitting on the front wheels. Will go down to the garage in the morning to see for sure. Too tired tonight. Thanks for your help and have a great day.

The OEM bearings have one side that is open. When I replace those bearings, I buy the bearings that are sealed on BOTH sides.

They are open on the back side so you can service them.
They need to be cleaned and repacked every so often
Of course , no want wants to do that kind of stuff any more and many probably don't even know that it should be done periodically.

section 2-12 in the service manual

Common service item on cars as well "back in the day"
One of the 1st service procedures I and many others my age learned as a kid back then

1872 wheel bearings

I thought I was buying bearings that were sealed on both sides. When I received the bearings I opened the package and they were sealed on one side. I can't return the bearings so I will use what I received. I have the tractor sold, just did not want to sell it with something I know it needed. Hope I can find time to get them installed before he picks the tractor up. Thanks for the reply's and have a great day.

Too bad MT is so far from Virginia, I would surely like to buy a tractor from a Man such as you Bob. The days of people making sure things
are good when you sell it are on the fast track to being gone.
I appreciate your style.

Cub parts site shows a grease fitting on the front wheel of the 1872, same as every Super wheel I've ever seen as well as most later GT's. Bearings need to be open on the inside of the wheel if you intend on greasing them. If not go with sealed. I grease my stuff. Your wallet your choice. :beerchug:

My 1864 has no zerks on the front wheels, therefore sealed bearings. Although the parts breakdown shows zerks on the front wheels. :American Flag 1:

Yes I did look on the inside of both front wheels. There are no grease fittings on either wheel. I guess some of the SGT have them and some do not.
Have a great day and thanks for all the reply's.
