882 Start problems

Good day all. I've been lurking in the shadows for quite some time reading and enjoying the discussions on this site. Now with inheriting the care of many cub cadets I need to jump into this pool of 882/782D's not starting.

So I have done the starter upgrade. Prior to replacing the starter (original) it had all of the basic issues I have read about here (clicking solenoid, hard starting, clicking ignition switch multiple times to get it to eventually turn over. Along with the new starter I have replaced the main feeds from the battery (both ground and two power sources). At the main power feed of starter I show 12.5V and also at the circuit breaker - same reading whether from frame or battery ground. For the start circuit it is only registering 10.3V with key in start position. I have traced back through the brake switch and PTO switch and still only 10.3V.

So it this my issue and I need to keep going back further - which is the ignition switch? Do I need to look at the power coming through the Ammeter to position 30 on the ignition switch?

BTW jumping the starter circuit to the main lead the starter spins over, but only clicks otherwise.

Thanks for your time.

Larry, I'm not sure you can get to it but what is the voltage on terminal #30 when you crank it? Then check terminal #50 when cranking. I've had an ignition switch fail that was doing the same thing on one of my diesels too.

Did you do the glow plug upgrade too? If not, all that current for the gp's are going through the switch.

Here is a good price on a new switch. https://www.ebay.com/itm/25277974498...MaAiTsEALw_wcB

What part of Georgia are you from?

Just a follow up. Upon posting the above yesterday afternoon I decided to connect the safety line back to the starter - and it started. So all I basically did was jump the safety portion of the PTO switch and it is working perfectly. Spins fast and starts with ease with the gear reduction starter. I'm going to monitor and eventually replace the PTO switch and see if it continues to work.

Oak, we live east of Atlanta in Loganville. Just move there from PA back in November of last year. Getting acclimated to the southern living and temps but all my cub cadet projects are still in PA. Need to get them moved to GA and get them all running.

Thanks for the reply.
