1782 drive shaft question

My new to me 1994 1782 has a wobble in the drive shaft at the rear CV joint. I took it apart and the 1/4-20 bolt that holds the rear half of the CV joint to the pump was backing out, allowing the CV joint to move forward half way off the spline. There is some play in the CV to pump spline interface but I'm not sure how much is normal.

My question is, is the 1/4-20 bolt that keeps the rear CV joint half to the pump spline supposed to be tight, or does the CV joint need to float back and forth on the spline a bit? I am assuming tight and the spline at the engine allows the shaft the necessary adjustment.

The CV joint itself shows minimal wear, and had grease in it still.

Thanks,

Eric

That bolt should be tight.

I figured but thought I would double check. The threads were a bit messed up in the spline so I chased those, new bolt with lock washer and blue locktight, put it all back together and it's working great!

Thanks!

Eric
