2185 Cub wont shut off
Anyone have an idea for troubleshooting a 2185 with a CH18s Kohler engine that will not shut off by means of the ignition switch?
I have replaced the ignition switch, PTO switch, bypassed the brake switch, got good ground from the battery to engine block, by passed seat safety switch, both coil wires are intact. I am at a loss! Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance, Brent |
These shut off by grounding the white wire on the coil. When the key switch is in the off position, it grounds that wire. The wire is white at the coil and will be yellow at the switch. Do you have an electrical wiring diagram?
You can get one hereā¦. https://www.ccpartsnmore.com/cub-cad...ing-schematics There 3 for the 2185. You will need your complete model number or serial number from the tractor. This should get you started. Holler if you need any more help. |

Thank you very much for the quick reply! I will check this out, I do see the white wires on each of the coils. Ill check continuity white wires on each coil back to the ignition switch.

Hi Cub Diesel Fan,
I checked continuity on my white / yellow wire to each coil with the engine running (open circuit). When I turn the switch to the off position, I begin to go to a closed circuit (6.8ohm) but never to 0.0ohm, which keeps the engine running. I have tried two new after market switches. Would this possibly be my issue? Not having a genuine Cub Cadet switch or something with a coil?? Thank you in advance, Brent |

All 3 serial number ranges have the same switch. Take your meter and see if they ohm out like the truth table in the picture. The part number you need is 925-3163.
I have a parts 2185, I will remove the switch tomorrow afternoon after work and check it. |
Check the ground connection at the switch and make sure there is a good ground there.

I checked and the new switch, it trues out at 0.0ohm on points M & G . I also wire wheeled the the pick up on the fly wheel (wouldn't start if the pick up was dirty) checked all my wiring from the switch to each coil - good. I have the seat switch by-passed and the brake switch by-passed. Good connections at the battery especially the ground.
Something so simple can be soo hard!! I truly appreciate all your support!!! Brent |
I installed a new connector at the switch ground and the green wire at the battery ground.
