3208 Cub rear end repair
2000 22 year old 3208 cub cadet rear end starting leaking. Transmission and parts are no longer available. Can not get seal blocks so I got just the 30mm x 40mm x 4mm shaft seals and installed them in the aluminum blocks myself. Also replaced the oil seal part 721-0393. Bought all my seals from Oringsandmore in Henrico,Va. Did away with the cub cadet DRIVE SYSTEM FLUID PLUS and replaced the fluid with cub cadet 737-3062 oil. Just wish I could have found a replacement trans fluid other than cub cadet. Need to keep my 3208 running because cub cadet no longer sells the shaft drive snow blower with the hyd lift.

First, welcome to OCC.......... :Welcome2:
The proper oil for your Transmission is: 737-3120 (QT) --->> 490-000-C051 or 737-3121 (GAL). The proper Hydro Oil Filter is: 923-3014. Suitable replacements are here.... Filters |
talked to a mtd tech and was told that since I had the fluid completely drained that I could replace the fluid with the cub cadet 737-3062 instead of the drive plus. Just do not mix the two together. Was also told that 20w-50 oil was used before they started using the drive plus just sure how it would react with the hyd system for deck or front end lift

It's your tractor, use as you see fit.

Welcome to OCC.
A lot of owners use Rotella synthetic 15W-40 without issue. Do not use IH Hytran. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Shell-Rot...B&gclsrc=aw.ds I myself am a cheapskate and use this stuff. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...d?cm_vc=-10005 |
thanks Oak
replacing all the rear shaft seals was not as hard as I thought. I actually enjoyed taking the rear end off and putting it up on my work bench and disassembling it. |
