kt-19 ?

Doese anyone have any input on the kt-19. I have a guy who has one. he says it over heats. But I can buy it for $100 .

Are they any good ?
Are they pressure lube ?
Are they rebuildable ?

Thanks joe

It's the KT version of an M20. Spec number 49200 and higher are Series II. Any and all KT17 pros/cons would apply. If it's a Series II, I would imagine it could be rebuilt. Overheating is probably a carb/timing/clean stuff easy fix.

Matt,
So if at worst case, if it is a series 2. Then it can be rebuilt with magnum parts ? And I would have to assume that the heads, jugs, carb, ext, are the same as the magnums also ?

I just don't know if I want to spend $100 on it. I mean I can find good running mag 18's for $300-$400. And I know the parts are available to rebuild them. I wouldn't have to cross parts over. He has had it apart and now it won't start. I think I might be better off waiting for something else.

Jugs are probably the same. Carb is better than a Mag would have. I think the heads on a Mag are different; that's how they got 1 more hp out of each engine. Otherwise, internals from an M20 would probably work. I can't say for sure that's the case, but I know you can do that with the KT17.

Put M20 heads on it and you'd probably have 20 hp. I've heard that 2 extra hp over the 18 really makes a difference. How many $300 M20s have you found?

Matt,
I haven't found any $300 m20's, But the 18's are on ebay and craigslist fairly often. And I went and had a look see just now. It is not anything I want to deal with.

Thanks for the help though.
