GT2186-44 breaking belts

Hi,

I have a GT2186-44 that is breaking belts. I am in the process of checking all the pulleys on the deck and the tractor and have a couple of questions.
1) Is the double pulley on the deck installed correctly if the larger diameter pulley is on top, where the PTO attaches.
2) The PTO belt is the one that is breaking the belt i am using is a Cub Cadet OEM 954-04041 the original that was on the tractor when new was a 754-04041
3) The only changes that have been made were changing the two pulleys on the frame under the electric clutch and that was at least 2 years ago. (purchased from my local Cub Cadet dealer).

The belts that broke were brand new installed this spring and was during my third cutting in the middle of my lawn, no obstructions. Each time I installed the belts they were very hard to get over the double pulley on the deck, the tension was released.
Any thing I should look for?

Thanks Mike

Don't worry about the P/N difference. Cub changed from 7XX to 9XX quite a while ago.

i can not find any numbers on the pulleys while on the tractor, they measure about 5 inches diameter. i could not find my bill either but i have a note saying i ordered two 756-3045.
i have every thing back with a new belt and just ran it, its quite and the belt ran cool i have not tried to cut yet, the belt was still tight going on. Do you know if i have the PTO double pulley on correct with the larger pulley up.
Thanks Mike

756-3045....>>> 756-3045A.... >>> 956-3045A Idler Pulley 5.06"

Thanks for the info. I am still trying to find out if I have the double pulley installed correct with large pulley up.

thanks,

Mike

Mike Are you absolutely sure that the spindles in the deck are turning
easily. If not they could be putting a bunch of strain on the belts.
Is the idler pulley on the deck tensioning properly, not just spinning but
hinging easily.

All I can find is that the Double Pulley is 753-3115 Double Pulley 5.065/4.659.

The Outer Pulleys are 756-3089 which are 4.00" in Diameter.

I would venture to say, that the 4.69" portion of the Double Center Pulley mates up (belts up) to the 4.00" Outer Pulleys.

thanks Ken All the pulleys move freely are smooth when turned. when you referanced to idler pulley i assume you are talking about the one that is spring loaded, if hinged refers to its abilty to move back and forth that is OK also. The belt on the deck is not the problem its the PTO belt, i am assuming you are asking because it may be related to my problem.
Sorry if i am not understanding all of this, and thanks for your help.

Thanks again Roland
That is how i have it, the 5.065 receives the PTO belt and the 4.659 drives the blades. Also it takes a lot of effort to tension and lock in place the PTO belt which is back to my original problem.
