Starting issues

I have a HDS 2145, with an Onan 140. I just got it last fall, with 600+ hours. It always started and run good. This spring the same. But now the starter wouldn't engage. So I cleaned the cable connections ( they did need it), that worked. Starts really hard now 50% of the time if it starts, but sometimes when turning over it gurgles thru the exhaust, not backfire ( the motor is not even warm). Some times while mowing it just quits running. Like Electrical. If it was fuel I am thinking then it would give spit and spudder a couple seconds or so. LOL Yesterday started good was idling for a minute or so then just quit like I turned off the key. Thought the other day when the hood was open, I had seen a spark (I Think) on the right hand side of the motor where there is a plug with 4-6 wires (mower isn't at my house to look now). One of the wires goes under a cover to the motor I don't see any Bare wires. So even while trying to start it I am wiggling wires. I walked away, few minutes later went back, it started ran for couple minutes, then I shut it off and went home. No Consistency

Wrong sub forum, but I would check out the fuel solenoid if it has one, as well as the various safety switches. I'm not familiar enough with that product to know what would be arcing on the RHS, but if it's gurgling I suppose it's getting plenty of fuel? Easy way to test if you have spark would be to take off the air cleaner and give it a light shot of ether when you start cranking it next time.
