Hate Kohler K341

I've tried 4 carbs, tried putting brass floats in and Kohler needle valves. Adjusted float heights, turned screws, new hot coil, new condensers, and new plugs. Gapped points, used a light and set timing. Installed a vacuum fuel pump instead of mechanical, put in a spin on fuel filter, running only pure gas. New car battery, it turns over with good compression. It might run good for a day or two before I have to go through it again.
Being reverse rotation type drives, I can't even just repower.
Totally sick of Kohler K series engines.
:bash2:

Put on a previously used china carb, after cleaning it again, and it's running good, for now.

And this K-341 is installed in....what??

I only have two tractors in my signature.
Both use Kohler K series.
Both drive off the front flywheel.

Why do you need a fuel pump on a machine that has the tank above the engine?

I'm pretty sure all Cub Cadet & Deere machines drive off of the flywheel side. If you don't like that method you need to get a Case machine.:biggrin2:

Re-power....it's done all the time.

But, it's probably cheaper to rebuild what you have. The K series have been around for 50+ years. They're a damn good engine if you know how to work on them.

Have you static timed these engines?

Nessmuck 06-12-2022 11:50 AM

Yes, static timed.
Tried the fuel pump as a possible cure.

Nessmuck 06-12-2022 11:51 AM

Like I said, it's running fine again, but I know it won't last.

Something must be haywire somewhere.
The 341 I did a major on 3 years ago is still running strong w/no issues at all and is my prim tiller unit that gets a lot of use each spring and summer.
Did you overhaul this unit recently, or had the head off to check for excess carbon build up.
Check the valves and set the clearance and proper compression release spec's?

What size pump are you using? You could be pushing fuel past thr needle and seat.
