1863 fuel solenoid

Hello all,

My Dad has a 1863. It started running poorly, everything good to carb. I removed it and cleaned it. Getting ready to put it back on, and try it, but don't know the purpose of the solenoid, when it comes into play, and how to test it thanks.

Purpose is to prevent fuel from entering the engine when the key is switched off, therefore reducing the chance for backfiring. If you energize the solenoid, fuel must flow through it.

Sounds like you need to add a relay to the starter.
