Reversing Drive belt direction
What are members opinion in reversing the direction of the drive V-belt on a mower
I wonder if like car tyres as an example it evens out wear on the V faces or could that be just wishful thinking Are there any downsides that you perceive in this reversal of rotation ? I have on occasion done this with no visible detriment but curiosity permits me to ask the Forum Oz |
I believe he means flipping a belt that is worn on one outside edge so that the better edge would get the wear in order to get more life from the belt.
Not necessarily in order to reverse rotation. Is that correct Oz? |
I'm pretty sure your best bet would be to swap used belts with someone from North America. Just like your toilets swirl backwards and your steering wheels are on the right (wrong) side, so the belts would go the other way.

If one side of pulley's are worn different because of alignment or just normal wear, it might help add to the hours the belt will last.
---or it just might accelerate the wear causing early demise. But I think it would be quite insignificant. Being Left handed, and parting my hair on the right side of my head, at times I'm so confused I don't know if I scratching my watch or winding me ass And thinking what Ambush said, all bets are off for those on the udder side of the planet. :bigthink: |
Ironman , Ambush and Ol, George they are all good comments , by flipping the belt over you reverse its direction of travel
I hope this is prolonging the life of the belt and if any of the American Forum members have a GT 2550 and are prepared to post there belts to me here in Oz they would of course be given a good home Like you Ol,George I also use the CORRECT hand not the right one as for steering wheels and water going down the drain we do not worry to much about this , belt longevity is more important Oz |
Curious as to what you are wanting to run backwards, just sayin'
|
If I understand him correctly, nothing is going to "run" in a different direction, just the belt being flipped over, it runs in a reverse direction of what it was operating.
--But if one goes east enough, they wind up west of where they started.:bigthink: |

Hey Ol,George if I go East I end up in yesterday , I mowed the lawn yesterday with my backward travelling belt It looks like no discernible problems can or do occur Oz |
