Kohler k321 propane fuel
3 Attachment(s)
I have been looking to how feasible it would be to convert my 1450 to propane since i discovered that at one point you could get K series engines with dedicated propane fuel regulators (not duel fuel or trifuel carburetor adapters that bolt in between the engine or air cleaner). The K series service manual you can still find on kohlers website has a small section on the regulators, one manufacturer was Garretson?
I even saw a 107 cub that came up for sale in the area that has the propane inlet adapter style that goes between the air cleaner and carb- i attached pictures I saved) Has anyone seen the style of adapters available anywhere where you remove the carb bowl and other hardware an make it a dedicated propane regulator? Anyone ever use a propane powered kohler mower and how it handled? from my knowledge of forklifts and other machines propane powered engines have really reduced maininence schedules and great longevity. |
Welcome to OCC........ :Welcome2:
I personally, have NOT seen an LP setup on a Kohler. |
There is a lot of interesting informations at this web site. Perhaps it, or they can help answer some of you questions.....

Thanks, that seemed promising but it looks like they are only meant to run at high throttle, looks like they are aimed at generators since you always run them at high speed.
it looks like no one is making conversion kits that are appropriate for a throttled engine anymore, at least for higher hp like 14 or 16 hp kohler's. I don't think I want to do the duel fuel or trifuel conversions because it necessitates adding an adapter that would stick out the air cleaner to far for the side panels to stick on, might be fine for the 100 series but not a 1400 if I want to keep it looking original, also they all say it reduces the hp of the engine since the gas isn't mixed at the right point anymore. In order to maintain speed control it needs a type of propane regulator that the fuel goes in a hose that sticks up through where the needle assembly went to mix the gas and a 2nd vacuum hose connects to a drilled out port from the old idle fuel port that carries vacuum back to the regulator to adjust the propane outlet pressure from increased suction at higher speed. Doesn't look like its worth the trouble |
Even if you could do it, I don't think it would look very original once you got the propane tank mounted.
