M15 off 1535 parts tractor to use on 1864

So when looking for an engine for my 1864 project that I am also converting to all steel 82 series front end, I was able to find a 1535 parts tractor with low hrs. My plan is to transfer the mag engine into the 1864 and would like to know how to use the 1864 engine wiring harness to connect up to the Mag engine. Maybe Roland would be able to help me with this. I am also working on the now frankenstein dash that was constructed by using the out side portion of a 82 series plastic dash and fusing it with the center portion of the 1864 so that I end up with a better fit with the steel hood.

What kind of shape was the 1535 in? That is the manual if I remember correctly. Rare in my area.

Yes This is a three speed with creeper. Only front end plastic parts that are any good is the hood. The throw out bearing and housing are shot. I set out looking for an engine to put in my 1864 and found by buying the whole tractor, I paid less than what I would have buying just an engine.

So I pretty much did the opposite conversion with my 582, which originally had the dreadful 16HP Briggs opposed twin. The M15/M18 use magneto ignition, exactly the same as the Kohler Command, so the existing kill wire and dash mounted key switch can be utilized. The charging circuit is the same, as both the Magnum and Command use the same rectifier and very similar wiring. The biggest change will be the wiring for the solenoid and starter motor. The Command uses a GM Delco style integrated starter solenoid and related wiring. The Magnum uses a remote relay, which on a Cyclops was mounted on the dash tower IIRC. Take wiring diagrams from both tractors and compare them, but what I have laid out is a synopsis.

Thats good to know, I did notice the relay mounted on the battery tray that they used to activate the starter solinoid. I'm going to check out the MTD sight for some electrical diagrams. Thanks for your response

I checked the MTD sight out and all they had were owner manuals which didn't show and electrical drawings. Would anyone else happen to have the 1864 electrical drawings?

Just so I understand this correctly, you want to install a M-15 (M-18 really) into an 1864 ???

Yes, its a low hr Magnum with 570 hrs and I am a big fan of the magnums. It is going into a 1864.

YUP, I can draw up a Wiring Diagram to make that work, if you like.
