Unsure if tapered shaft will work for me

Hey all. Sorry for my ignorance, but will this short block off eBay work for my IH Cub Cadet 70? I didn’t know the term tapered shaft. Thanks in advance.

The tapered shaft is the end that secures the flywheel, a tapered friction fit w/a keyway
What is wrong with the engine that's in your 70?

Buying that one off e-bay would be a crap shoot and may turn out to be a boat anchor.

You need a crankshaft with the PTO end like the K161 crank pictured.
You can see that his looks nothing like it.
Move on....

Thanks for the replies!
Finruskuw, the one that is in my 70 right now idles high and makes flames in the muffler. I will be checking valve tappet clearance before actually rebuilding the engine or buying a different short block or engine.

Sounds like a lean carb problem. :bigthink:

Do a thorough tune-up.
New plug and points, make sure the condenser is good.
Adjust the governor, put a kit in the carb paying close att'n to the float setting and static time the engine as well.
May just solve your problem.
