Trans

My 122 has a vibrating sound coming from the trans when you roll it. If you adjust the brake out far enough it will stop, but you have no brake. If you adjust it to where it brakes it make a vibrating sound and has some friction when you roll it. What is wrong ?

Lucas
Sounds like your internal brake is seized
Remove the brake rod.
Remove the brake lever.
Spray some PB blaster in there.
Remove the brake rod push lever.
If you can remove the little round ball that is in there,I use a magnetic pickup tool, you almost got it.
Do not lose the ball.
Spray more pb blaster in there and it may loosen it up the brake puc.
Put it all back together and try it out.
You may have to do this a few times.
Good luck!!!!

Is this a "vibrating sound" or is it a vibration?

How are you sure it is the transaxle that has the problem?

I suggest you get a repair manual if you don't have one. There is more to it than just getting the ball out. The trans has to come out. The reduction housing has to come off.

What has happen the o-ring has dirt around it and has dried out/harden/swelled up enough so the brake lining retainer doesn't move anymore. The o-ring needs replaced.

Check out page 2 of this topic:

It shows what you have to do to replace that o-ring. You need a reapir manual because some of the bolts have torque reading they need to be.

Yeah Dale,
I was kinda leaning towards that but you gotta try the easy stuff first.:biggrin2.gif:

Lucas do you really need a brake??:bigthink:

I have a manual.

YES I need a brake.

Is it possible to do this witout draining the trans fluid ?

Matt G. 09-03-2010 08:32 AM

Yes, if you remove the transaxle and tip it up on end.
