3240 power steering help
 

I blew the left hand steering hose, replaced it, and now have no steering.
It made one unaided turn to the right and would not return. I can turn it left if I pull the wheel, but it just seems like the fluid is not coming through. Does it need to be bled? Does the piston need to be pre loaded? I tried working the steering back and forth with no success. The deck lift is working but not if I turn the wheel at the same time.

The power steering wheel/valve should fill and bleed the cylinder without any special procedure except to turn it all the way to the left then right.

Check your hose connections and be sure your steering valve is working correctly. It could be blocking the fluid flow causing the deck problems.:bigthink:

Did you refill the fluid to the correct level?

Thanks. I think I'm going to loosen the fittings and see what squirts. I did have the hose made up by a local guy using the old hose fittings, I'm hoping that the hose is kinked or blocked. It sure does seem like the fluid is not getting through.

FWIW:
on most mobile equipment, the steering has "priority" over other powered
circuits.
the fact that the deck lifts, says your hyd. system is functioning but there is a problem with the steering circuit when commanded to steer, which you know.

With the engine running
Slightly loosening the hoses one at a time at the cyl, then turning the steering wheel L/R that should tell if the fluid is trying to advance /retract the cyl.

Wondering if there was a problem with the cyl blowing by internally, and then the hose gave way? :bigthink:

oh, have a drain pan to catch the fluid it can have maybe #800 pressure at full turn, and of course wear eye protection.
