FEL on CC108
3 Attachment(s)
I've been lurking here on/off for quite some time.
Finally found some time and cash to rebuild the K241 on this 108 I was gifted. I'd been hoping to build a FEL using PF Engineering plans for a number of years but had not been able to find anywhere close to the cash required to buy supplies. Happened to score this Johnson Workhorse 10 very reasonably. He tossed in some new Ag tires and some misc parts. Anyways.... If I got the history correct, this FEL started life on a Simplicity. The guy I got her from had her mounted on a Ford. The spacing of the undercarriage was too wide for the rear end. So I needed to make spacers. These were fabbed from leftover 7" roundstock I'd been tripping over. Each spacer is 3" and weighs about 30#. The suitcase weights came out of a dumpster dive (with permission). The bracket steel same. Can't throw nothing away! I don't pretend that this fab is best practice. But she seems to all work well enough. And I'm not much in to pretty paint. The entire build was less than $1500. I'd post more pics but don't know how to make them small enough to meet the requirements. Next up is to affordably chase a leak in the hydrostatic of a CC149. |
I'm not being critical because the pictures are hard to judge from,
but IMO it looks like the Cub frame is basically gonna support the bucket and all the weight in it, thus splitting it open like a banana. Shouldn't there be some type of cross member under there going all the way across. Again, hard to tell from pictures. |

also, I've no issues with criticism. I had been thinking about front/back balance. I'll take a look at what it might take to add a crossmember. Please note that the Johnson 10 has a weight limit of #350. Regardless, your observation is appropriate. Thank you, Daryl MN |
My DanCo has no crossmember but it bolts to the frame up by the engine near the front axle and in the rear under the axle.
It's a factory model 2149 built for the 149 it lives on. Been working the crap outta it for near 5 years now w/no issues. |

Here's a pic from another member's (Ambush) FEL project that kinda shows what I was trying to say in my earlier post...

I'm not averse to fabbing a cross member.
There is a pic of a similar Johnson loader in this thread. Note the wishbone subframe. https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=61296 That doesn't resolve the crossmember question. Nor does it tell us if 1811woody added one. A manual available at CCSpecialites (http://www.ccmanuals.info/attachments.html) shows a Johnson/Cub Manual that shows the wrap around the front of the tractor and the wishbone. Thanks for the input!
