My 149 undergoing some updates
5 Attachment(s)
I bought this 149 from a member some years back. It has served me well and been used regularly. However, some repairs are needed with additional updates too.
Here is my repair/update list: Replace driveshaft and flex joint. Remove hydro pump and replace cork gasket. Drain axle case, cleanout housing, replace filter. Remove and repair lift assembly due to worn and damaged rockshaft. Hydro lift handle and valve loose. Worn link on handle. Steering improvement with thrust bearings. Repair battery retaining bracket Finally, spring tune-up The gray rockshaft assembly is from a parted out 1250. Unfortunately, the tractor was in very bad shape but this assembly was still good. I removed the 5/16 pins, measured the holes and found them to be in spec. I replaced the pins and will weld up the worn right side lift pin |

Great job Beth. You have been busy with that one.

Looks like a great machine and good ongoing project.
I like the list. Maybe I need to adopt that plan. Trying to keep the mental list isn't near as easy as it used to be. Ken |

That is a fine looking tractor that found a really good home!
Nice work and thanks for the pics (and keep 'em coming) please... |
Some updates on the update.

Changing the infamous leaking cork gasket. Changing hydraulic oil and filter and cleaning the gunked up gear case. BTW, I did not split the tractor to remove the pump. That hydro pump is heavy!

Update 2

The hydraulic lift handle and valve were both loose. The handle linkage had the wonderful bent nail fixes ever thing repair...damn that's annoying. Anyways, the handle and corresponding link were worn. New parts are on order. The old handle and link will be repaired for another clunker I will be putting together. One mounting bolt for the valve was missing and the other was loose. The threads needed some attention.

Update 3

Added the thrust washers and bearing to improve steering effort. I have installed these on my regularly used Quietlines and wide frames. Added lock nut in place of the two jam nuts. Adjusted and tightened the steering box. Lubed all the zerks for the steering and axle pivot. Nirvana! Also, I keep the front tires inflated to 15psi.
