Hydro/Axle
I am starting a project and wondering what your opinion is on the best series or combo of hydro/drive axle is. I have a couple of 127's or a 1250 that I could use parts from. I'm not running big power but just want to know what the consensus is. Thank you.

The two axle/hydro assemblies are essentially the same with some minor differences.
1) The 127 axle will have disc brakes on each axle tube. 2) The 1250 unit may or may not have external disc brakes like the 127. Later Quietlines used an internal brake. Both have their advantages and drawbacks. 3) The relief valves on top of the 127 hydro came with manual release buttons whereas the 1250 may have used automatic release valves (slightly taller) 4) The oil pick up tubes may be the same but the 127 could have the one that wraps around the hydro. 5) The hydro control linkages are essentially the same. 6) The input shafts on the hydros are the same 7) frame mounting brackets and bolts holes are the same on both. Hope this helps. |
Thank you that helps a lot! I noticed the 1250 does have internal brakes and also aluminum end housings.

The axle tube housings can be swapped.

My thought exactly, I think we have all the parts we need I just need to do some swapping. If only modern manufacturing had the same mentality towards building it right the first time and making parts interchangeable!! Thank you so much for the help!:American Flag 1:

Have fun and good luck with your build. Keep us posted regarding your project.

Reverse Hydro Ops
So I am running into a slight issue with my design. Because I am using a 1250 for the engine bay it is almost impossible to rotate the engine in the bay to have the correct rotation for the hydros that will be sitting underneath the engine. I ran the hydro in reverse operation with a drill to check if it would work and it did. Of course reverse is now fast and forward is now slow, is it as simple as taking the swashplate out and flipping it to make forward the faster speed? Does anyone have any experience running the input in reverse rotation? I know the pickup now is in a different location and oil starvation could be an issue, are there any other concerns?
