battery recommendations?
My 782d used to have a top post battery should I convert it to a side post to get a bigger battery and I am not doing the GR starter.

What battery does it now? What is the cold cranking amps rating?
My 1572 has a 350 CCA top post battery. It is 6 years old and it has top posts. |
it has 250 I was just wondering because I could fit a bigger one in, but it has died on me twice in the year I had it it would spin over once and themn stop most of the fall it started right up. and is it a common problem for the exhaust manifold bolts to snap off. and how do I get them out, what grade bolt should I use. what is the torque spec for the exhaust manifold? Thanks,

I don't remember the brand:bash2:

The glow plug upgrade would help you a lot. Get the biggest CCA battery that you can find, that will fit.
I have never had the bolt snap on my 1572 because it has a bracket that is connected to the engine for support. I had all but 2 break off on a 1782 because it does not have the support bracket. We had to weld a nut to the bolt and then unscrew it from the head. Below is a kit with the factory parts that i have listed on ebay. These are what I used. I am not sure on the torque specs but they are probably in the manual in the tech section. Post a picture of yours under the hood. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264790008443 |
i will get the picture this weekend or next weekend

Why would you not do the GR starter?
The OEM starters are not very good. I know a lot of people don't like the China GR starters but I've had pretty good luck with them. There is some rewiring to be done if you do the GP upgrade. Just an FYI I run regular L&G batteries in all my diesels. But......I don't live where it's 30 below zero in the winter either.:biggrin2: |
I really dont want to cut around the starter or pull the engine I just hopfully have to change the starter selinoid because it just clicks and after a while it starts turning and it spins it over good enuth to start in 20 degrees with a minute of glo plugs, I will be changing the glo plugs in spring. is there a good what to change the fan belt without running the belt in front of the fan?

Start by checking all your connections. Positive and negative. Make sure to check for corrosion in the ring terminal crimps at the battery. Check the voltage at the starter while you crank the engine.

ok will do
