782 Hydro Issues - where to start
I parked my 782 to refill the spreader, When I started it & put it in forward gear, there was a jerk and all hydraulics were lost - no forward, no reverse, and no lift. I pulled it into the garage and after a couple of hours pulled the cover to see if the shaft was turning. When I started it the lift worked and reverse worked, so I backed it out of the garage, and put it in forward with the same result. Everything lost. I can also push it freely (rear wheels don't lock like normal hydro operation)
History: new valves several years ago, clean HyTran and filter. It has always had an issue going into forward when first starting. Lift and reverse would work immediately, but I would have to move the lever from neutral to forward several times, then it would jerk into forward gear and work fine the rest of the day. Other than that it has been amazingly reliable for the 15 years I've owned it. My first guess is a faulty valve, but I'd like to properly troubleshoot it before getting out the money cannon. I'd appreciate some experienced input on where to start. Thanks! |
Busted coiled Spirol pin in the drive shaft.
Common issue on these units. Remove the tunnel cover and make sure the driveshaft AND the input shaft of the pump are both turning while the engine is running. Replace with a new 1/4" Spirol pin, NOT a split pin. While you have it apart, check that the holes in the couplers, driveshaft and input shaft are not wallowed out of round |
Yep, the pins are the culprit. I saw the fan spinning & assumed . . . a closer look confirms the pins are broken. Thanks for an easy fix!
UPDATE: Ordered pins Thursday, received them Friday and it is running again on Saturday. Love this group! |
