Recommendations of a new to me CC
 

Hello everyone,
I was looking to get everyone's opinion on if they were in the market for a new lawn tractor for an 1 acre of flat land which direction would they go. It does not have to be brand new. What year, make and model would you purchase. I do not mind paying up for something that will be dependable and last. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will also offset this tractors use by using my 1974 Quietline 1000 to mow every couple of weeks. Thank you, Chris

Since you already have a tractor, the assumption would be that the new one is for grass cutting only.
So for one flat acre I would definitely want a zero turn, and probably not a CC.

Ok, I do have about a dozen trees to cut around so a zero turn would be great. If not CC where would you look? SCAG, Husqvarna, etc,?

Products with solid reputations; Ferris, Exmark, Deere and, of course, the brands you listed.

If was buying a new mower, today. I would get a Ferris. The ride quality is what most appealing to me.

It depends on your budget. An entry level Scag new will cost around $6k and I'm sure all the other brands listed will be about the same too. There are also some good used of the same brands out there at reasonable prices too. 1 acre isn't that large that a good garden tractor would work too. The 82 series, cyclops & 3000 series Cub Cadets would also be a good choice. The 3000 series with a good 48" or 54" deck will give a great looking cut. It all comes down to how much cash you want to throw at it.:biggrin2:

The are many ZT's manufacturers but I'd stay away buying from big box stores even if they carry good brands the little guy sell. The big box tend to sell entry levels homeowner whereas the smaller guys will sell entry levels up to pro level. If you're budget conscious, at least think of a mid level machine. Smaller guys tend to service you better.


Finally... if it ain't diesel, get one with Kawasaki motor. I think the BS and Kohler today are junk compared to the Kawasaki, but that's me! My Dad has a Bad Boy.... and Im impressed.

I am kind of agreeing with you OAK. I like using my Quietline every few weeks to cut but I also know that this is a 1974 machine so I probably shouldn't use it every week. I think I would like to still use a riding mower for the bulk of my cutting. I like the look of the newer CC models but I've been told to stay away from the brand new models. Anything without a Kawasaki engine they said to stay away from. That was from a local CC dealer that I've known for awhile. I didn't know if certain years or series of the CC riding mowers were better than others or if people on here had better experience with other models.

Super with a haban 60" if your dead set on using a cub cadet rider.
