1220 hydro issue
 

I have a 1220 hydro in parts that I grabbed off of my grandfather. I am wanting to put it back together and get it working. However, my issue that is stopping me right now is the rear end does not work. It was going one day, after being used weekly for several years and it just stopped shifting. Not knowing anything about the rear ends, I assumed it was bad. I priced a replacement and it is too much for me. Even trying to find used ones is too much! Is there any one here that is familur with these that can tell me the common issues with the rear end and how perhaps I could try to fix it if it is possible. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Most of the CC lawn tractor hydro rears were not very good. About the only thing you can try is changing the filter (if it has one) and filling it with 90W gear lube. This is what a dealer recommended to my dad when his 382H (older model with similar trans) started slipping. That was 15+ years ago and it's still going.
