K161 Breather misting oil
I decided to fiddle with the breather on my 70 and try to stop it from gradually coating the side of the engine in an oily film. I replaced the old fragile filter material with new synthetic stuff and put a new rubber sleeve to make sure the reed is getting enough pressure on it to keep it seated of the port plate.
Well I should have just left it be because now during mowing its letting enough mist through that I can see it sometimes when I lean over to the left of the tractor. Maybe the cover and the reed is just too bent up and worn out. Looks like the M8 has an identical cover and I found a clean one available. But the breather on the K241 in my 1450 is more available and serviceable. Are the valve covers the same size so I could just swap the stud and do an upgrade? The original breather is very fiddly and since its riveted on it was difficult to try and make sure the reed is seated flat on the plate. |

Did you make sure the little hole in Plate "B" is towards the bottom?

Yes, That comes up enough in searching for that issue I was well aware it needs to be at the bottom for it to drain
I was having similar issue on my 14 hp engine with excessive oil film and it stopped when I replaced the rubber tube that applies pressure on the reed so it seats on the plate firmly, the old one was noticeably squished and distorted. I figured the same fix would work here. |
