129 Basket Pulley
2 Attachment(s)
The basket pulley on my 129 has this collar that goes inside, as the the ID of the pulley is too large for the crankshaft. Has anyone ever seen this? I can't find a collar like this on any parts diagrams. The pulley also has 3 setscrews, instead of the typical 2. A couple of questions:
1. Did it come stock like this, or does this look like something somebody modified along the way. 2. The holes in the collar need to be lined up with the setscrews in the pulley. How do I reinstall the pulley + collar while keeping them lined up? They keep sliding apart when I try to install it. |
Nope, it didn’t leave the factory that way. My guess is the original hole in the basket got worn out and somebody re- machined it bigger and put the sleeve on it. The only other possibility is the crank is from a different application and it has a smaller OD than normal.

I'm thinking the basket has been machined.
It's defiantly been modified, you can see where it was drilled for what I can only assume was a steering wheel puller, and then you can see the 3 spots where the basket was cut for what I assume was a 3 jaw puller. As for keeping things aligned while re-installing them, use the key to key to keep them aligned. Rotate crank shaft till the key way is up, lay the key in the key way, set the pulley on the crank over the key, tap the collar in place with a brass punch. |
Time for a replacement.
