2005 Cub Cadet LT1042 Slight Knocking Noise
Hopefully this is not a rinse and repeat thread. I have a 2005 Cub Cadet LT1042 with only 225 engine hours on it. I noticed recently that there is a slight knocking noise when running but it seems to be intermittent while running. I checked all the issues know to this situation and cannot find anything related. Things I have gone over such as Engine Frame and Head Bolts, Deck Spindles, PTO assembly etc...and cannot find anything loose.
No engine case cracks or oil leaks as well. I take excellent care of the mower and due its routine maintenance. It sounds like a rod bearing but I could be wrong. No flywheel key issues all seems tight under the hood. :bigthink: |

The only thing that I can offer is that the infamous Kohler Courage engines are known for the bolts (#13) holding the top and bottom crankcase halves together come loose and eventually the case cracks,
but I do not know if any sounds precede the upcoming disaster. Something you could check. |
Hey Ironman, Thanks for the tip but all of those were verified and were tight and have no signs of being loose.:bigthink:

One thing you could do is remove your deck entirely and drive around and see if you hear it. If it goes away you have likely eliminated an engine issue. A bit of a work but also a good time to do some deck maintenance.

Hey evhevh.
Yep, good thought I will give that simple trick a try.:biggrin2: I did the deck maintenance in the spring BTW |
