Tiller on a 782
I bought a tiller that I put on my 782 for a medium sized garden.
When tilling the drive speed of the 782 is far from constant, it will surge at times and other almost stop forward drive I am assuming this is just the way hydro drive behaves What gear drive Cub Cadet tractors would be the easiest to put the tiller on? I am not necessarily looking to buy another tractor, but I certainly am not opposed to adding another to the fleet |
No, the speed out of the hydro should be constant. Your trunion maybe worn, or there is some play in the hydro linkage.

You're gonna find the tiller 'pushes' the hydros as you're tilling as well. I find that I have to keep one hand on my hydro lever and my foot on the brake to kind of keep the speed somewhat steady.
Your easiest straight-forward gear drive swap would be a 582. I've never tilled with a gear drive, so I can't offer any other advice. |
You would need a gear drive tractor with a creeper gear,1st gear high range at WOT is way too fast for tilling. It might work once it’s all broken up, the alternative is to ride the clutch/brake to get your speed right. You won’t get a constant speed riding the clutch/ brake

I have a #2 tiller for the 3 point on my 782d and the tiller doesn't seem to push as much so you could try adding weight to the front idk how you would be able too with the mule drive on the front but yea it should be going a consistent speed.
