Cub Cadet 782 not starting
I have finally found my dream Cub, a 782! It is a clean machine. It is an 1981 model with an IH serial number. It also has the original hub caps, and even has the series II motor. My problem with it is that it doesn’t attempt to start. When I bought it, it ran, but it sat out at an auction site for a few weeks recently. I was maybe thinking one of the safety switches was bad, but I haven’t had time to mess with it. What common problems do these Cubs have? Is there some troubleshooting I should do first? I’m excited!

Also, the lights do click on

We need more info:
Does it turn over but not start? You say the lights "click on" do you mean they turn on when the Ign switch is in the light position? is the PTO switch in the "OFF" position? Is the brake/clutch pedal pushed fully in? Are sitting on the seat? Have you wiggled the wires on the back of the IGN switch? Have you checked to see if your battery is good? Are BOTH battery terminals clean and tight? ON BOTH ENDS? Report back. |
I have not had time to look at it this morning, but I did last night. The tractor does not attempt to start. The lights do click on when in the accessory position. The PTO switch was off when I did, I was sitting in the seat with the brake/clutch pedal pushed in. Nothing happened when I did that. When I have time to, I'll check the battery and wiggle the ignition switch. I will report back.

CC 782 not starting
Have you tried touching a (positive) battery jumper cable directly to the (positive) starter terminal to see if it turns over? Maybe the solenoid is bad...:bigthink:
|
Okay thanks, I’ll check that out! It might be the weekend before I find time to really mess with the tractor. I’ll respond as I figure stuff out.

I did some slight tinkering this morning, but nothing much. I have checked the battery and the cables, those a good. I also wiggled the wires on the ignition switch, and nothing happened from that. I also checked the seat safety switch, and that has been bypassed. I went ahead also and bypasses the neutral safety switch as well. Those two switches are functioning as well. What do I need to test now? Should I check the ignition switch and starter solenoid next? Thanks!

782 not starting
Yup! Test the solenoid and the starter next...:GoodLuck:

Okay, thank you! I'll check the starter, starter solenoid, and ignition switch!

There are 2 wiring diagrams for the 782's,-- early and late models.
Someone will direct you to them, I'm leaning toward your 782 having the later diagram, just so you know,so you don't take the wrong fork in the road. Both diagrams are not that complicated, ain't no computers on those good ol machines! :beerchug: they are simple. |
