1872 Power steering gear rebuild.

Trying to find a source for a steering gear rebuild kit for my 1872. Parts tree lists those as no longer available. Any help,on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Kelly

I’m not sure if they are still available but a kit for a green colored machine matched all the seals and o rings and was still available at least a few years ago when I bought it. A 318 I believe matches but check first. Good luck and keep an eye on those rascal springs

Talk to our site sponsor, https://cubcadetusedparts.com/ He rebuilds power steering pumps. He probably has the parts or knows what you can substitute for certain parts. Give Rob a call. He'll either answer or call you right back, but it is best to call, as Rob can be a little slow through email, as the Link is his retirement business. He was a Cub Cadet dealer until 2015.

Kelly, I haven't seen you on here in a while, glad you're back. I listed the parts link in this post.

Yes Oak it's been a couple yrs or 10 I don't know. Life is good here in the northeast. Retired now. Any chance a steering column out of a 2082 cyclops work on my 1872. Because of the tilt option I kind of doubt it but figured I would ask.

Kelly, to be honest, I don't know but I've seen you do some impressive things over the years on here so I'm thinking with your skills it would be possible.

Kelly converting a Cyclops box to an 82 style is easy. You'll need a double D to 3/4" coupler and a section of muffler pipe. Woodward steering has the coupler part number 109. I did this on a 1210 years ago using the manual box but the PS box has the same double D shaft dimensions. Link to Woodward. pics of the coupler. Use the upper section from the cyclops just cut it to what ever length works for you. Get some muffler pipe with an expanded end that will slip over the Cyclops box tube and one of those slip in bearings for the upper end.
