I ran the tractor and mowed grass with it. However, it would get hot and diesel when I shut it off.
I repeatedly set timing, but found that the timing mark was moving around relative to where the points broke.
Said another way: I'd set the timing, run it for a short time, then check the timing and the timing would be off.
This tells me that there's a problem like the keyway being damaged in the flywheel or crank or the key being sheared.
Alternatively, something may be wrong at the points end of the engine.
Either way, odds are that something is wrong inside the engine.

When I found this, I decided I had better things to do with my time and pushed the tractor back into the shed.
Now I'm selling the property and I need to do something with the tractor.
