Custom Cabs?
I sold my 782 a while back but still have the cab (see For Sale section for pics). I ran cross a YouTube video of a custom cab and starting thinking maybe that would be a fun little project for my 1872 SGT. Anyone have any pics of custom cabs?

I've got stock cab pics but not custom. I assume by custom you mean homemade? Maybe these will help with ideas.

Thanks, that does help a lot! Is that specifically for an SGT? Am I seeing that the top of the steering is near the front of cab?
I had test fitted my current cab from the 782 and it did the same thing because of the extra SGT length. Any pedal clearance issues? |
I think it is actually for an 82 series tractor. But it's close enough. The cabs are made to fit the fender pan not the frame. The fender pan is the same. So yes the steering wheel is a little underneath the windsheild. Still no problem for me to drive that way. Yes I had to trim the right brake pedal a little to get clearance.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...re278Small.jpg The rubber pad doesn't fit any more so when I painted the tractor I just covered the pedal with DIY Bedliner for traction. In primer. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...013Small-1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...018Small-1.jpg I may weld a little tab on the bottom of the right pedal so I can get to it eaiser by just rotating my foot. We'll see if it becomes needed. I don't use the brakes much with the hydro but they do occasionally gget put into service plowing to stop a spinning wheel. |
Geat pics, thanks!

Ok, I'm starting to seriously think about a semi-solid cab now. I found the exact material at Menards for what I want to do. Its 5/16" thick composed of fiberglass layer and a plastic corrugated backing for rigidity. I am guessing about $300-$400 for aluminum angle, fiberglass board, and windows. Super light and flexible to work with. And, I think it could look nearly factory (or better).
Several things to plan around like pedals on both sides, battery access and that pesky hood opening. Got some interesting thoughts there too. Gull wings???? Need to figure out the roof though. I had thought about scavenging the fiberglass roof of the existing cab I am selling, but hated to do that. Sold just in the nick of time! |
On mine the canvas covers the hood and opens with snaps for hood access. The windshield is hinged at the top and held with 2 wing nuts at the bottom and swings inward. This gives the hood room to open on the regular GT's. I'm not sure if it is a no no to say this here. But I would do a search over on MTF for cabs. There are a whole lotta members there that have made custom cabs. That's what I had intended until this one came up. After last winter I'd like to be out of the blowing snow at 12 degrees.

Did some mining over on the over site you suggested and came up with a lot of info. Still working details out in my head, but if I do build, I'l start a new thread with some of the info I have found and some of the better cabs people have built.
