48" mower deck

Started to take apart my 48" mower deck for painting off my 123 that has been in family since 1967 . Parts most have been missing a long time only a dirt outline shadow where once on deck ( or maybe not ). Mows grass well without them . Maybe taken off during service and never put back on . Was wondering if these parts are important at all .
They are Front Baffle assembly left and right PN/ 487781-R1 and PN / 482076-R1

I don't think they would have put any parts on there that weren't important...those look pretty major to me.

whithout baffles your deck will leave clumps instead of evenly disscharging the clippings out the side.

Pictures

Anyone have a good picture of what they look like on their deck ?
May not be to hard to recreate , if had some dimensions.

I found these pictures of a 48" deck . Shows no baffles . do you think these parts were never on these decks ? Possible a option for mulching .

There are a couple variations of the 48" decks. I think that is a bit later one that is one piece at the front. On some of the earlier ones, that front part bolts on. If yours looks like the one you just posted pictures of, you aren't missing anything.

Thanks Matt , too many choices on parts tree for my liking . Turns out mine looks more like the first post with the diagram . I am missing those front baffle parts . If anyone has a early 48 " deck would love to see a picture of those front baffles . Dimensions if possible so I can try to make them. But it still does cut the grass nice without them . It must cut awesome with them.

My 48" deck

Here is some pictures of my deck , during dis-assembly and after first coat of paint . I definitely have an earlier model 48" deck. If anyone else has one like this that has those front Baffles on theirs would love to see a picture .

Hubman,

I have a 48" deck and it might have that baffle. I have to take it off on Saturday to put new bearings in one of the spindle when I do I'll take some pics for you.
