Underpowered Original?

1 Attachment(s)
Just a quick question. I put dual ags on the back of my original and I am very impressed by how smooth the ride is now. However, in second and third gear the belt squeals at first for about 3 seconds and then runs fine. Am I putting too much stress on my engine to run these or the pulleys, or is this just natural? Thanks in advance for your responses!

Just because i'm assuming, that you had the original before the ags,,, and because I don't have an original, Did it squeel, under heavy load, with turfs,

Is the belt maybe loose, and slipping, resulting in the squeeling, I konw that's a cause on the Craftsman we had, We found out quick, right before the belt started being to far gone, she's screem like a son of a gun...

Just wonding, and helping, I guess I can call it that.

A new belt may be in order, and may not have shown up until this. I can't see how an Original can pull a bottom plow ( that's what I'm used to calling it.. turning plow etc) that the duals would be nothing.

Purchase a good belt, Gates in the past has served me well, however the Gates belts we use at work have surely declined over the last 2-3 years. Dayco also makes a good belt, and there are others. A good belt, from what I have seen running in v type pulleys needs to be soft, but strong... this is where Gates used to outperform, however as I said above... Also they make a belt cogged belt that mates better into the pulley, the small notches allow the belt to conform to the pulley better giving more surface area, and also run smoother.. However I'm not sure this fits your application, I'm sure someone will know... and can chime in maybe...

I would not think so. Running a plow is much more work, and I'am sure the Original you have can do it. I bet you 2 dollars to a donut, Merk would know about plowing with a k161.:Kohler1: Nice IH Cub Cadet Original, duels ROCK! I took note on how much better they drive on slopes and just in general as well!

I have been using Tru Blue belts, very quiet and super strong

Not to change subject, but am wondering why on some threads I only see text instead of an actual picture? I am using Firefox.

My 'O' has a little squeal in 3rd for a second or so, without duals or ags. Have you checked the tension, you may need to tighten it just a touch for the duals..

Without going out and trying each one, I don't remember for sure but at least two of my Originals squeal for a second or two when taking off in 3rd. gear, it's never been enough that I thought it was any kind of real issue (keep in mind that I don't "work" my Originals nearly as hard as most of my other tractors).

You may want to tighten the belt just a tiny bit to see what happens, FWIW I personally would rather have the belt squeal (no more than they do) a little, than put unnecessary radial pressure on the clutch and drive shaft components.

The 7 horsepower motor can do a good job pulling a moldboard plow.....if the plow is set up right and the soil condiations are right. Not knowing the age and condiation of the belt....the belt need adjusted or replaced. Spend a few extra $$$ and get a belt from a Cub Cadet dealer or belt design for a garden tractor. In the long run it will pay for itself. Another area to check is the pulleys to make sure they are not coming apart.
