Stuck Valve Quick Fix?
 

Whats the best way to get a valve unstuck quickly on a K321? Would it cause any problems if I soaked it in PB Blaster or WD40, lightly tapped it back down, then rotate the crank until it got stuck again and repeat until it moves freely?

There is no easy way to fix a stuck valve. You could try removing the valve and clean the stem. . It may or may not stick after you reassemble it.

There is something wrong with the motor if the valve is sticking. It is time to rebuild the motor in my book. If you do get the motor running you could cause more damage ($$$).

I'm assuming you're talking about the 147 you just picked up that looks like it sat outside its entire life. I've had to deal with a couple of these, and only one was really bad. If it isn't stuck too bad, you can remove it, clean the stem, grind the valve/seat, and put it back together after lubricating the stem a lot.

One I had was so bad that I bent the valve removing it. I replaced the valve, ground it, and that engine was very strong and reliable after that. I wouldn't completely write off the engine just yet.

I would try tapping the valve down with a piece of wood or a hammer handle (not the head of the hammer) and turn the motor and see if it sticks again. You might get lucky and it just suck in the position it sat in for years.

Soak with PB a day or so. Worked for me.

I actually decided to go through the whole motor since it hasn't been ran since 1986, I already got the sticky valve out. The residue in the carb was black its been sitting so long.

It was the intake valve that was sticking, it would slowly settle back down eventually but there was old gas/oil gummed up in the guide that was keeping it from moving freely. Whats the best way to get rid of this old residue? Would any harm be done with a liberal soaking of carb cleaner?
