NW PA cubs
 

Hi folks,
Since I have several Cubs I thought it might be time to check out your forum and get some input from serious Cub Cadet folks.
My wife Cheryl and I live in Albion PA, up near lake Erie. My screen name represents on of my other hobbies, making maple syrup. We also have 6 hives of bees right now and have been keeping bees about 6 years.
Back to the Cubs.
I bought my first one in about 1984 it is a 107 and had a mower deck and snow plow. I rebuilt the engine once and it now belongs to my son Eric.
Several years ago my aunt in Columbus Ohio had a 127 with mower deck that she did not need so I picked that up. Last year Eric restored it for me and I mowed lawn with it this year. I call it my big tractor. It just seems to have that feel to it. I will try to find a picture.

My grandson Mike and I drug a Cub 86 out of a metal storage shed two years ago, it had been rode hard and put away wet. Its our beater tractor. It is very smooth running shifts very nice and starts well but the clutch is about gone. Humm wonder if Mike had anything to do with that:)

Next Mike and I found a 106 in a barn near Cambridge Springs PA. We brought that home it needed a head gasket and a battery and the 10 horse runs fine with only a little smoke. The 106 has a creeper gear. It also had a mower deck with the big castings on the sides.

Today I picked up a Cub model 73 form my uncle in Conneautville PA. Started right up, but is a real mosquito killer. Must have some serious ring problem? It has a nice deck which seems solid (one small rust hole).

So thats it, except for several other not Cubs, like a 14 HP Bolens and a 8 HP Wheel horse. Oh Yea I have a IH roto tiller and a moldboard plow also that I have never uses yet. and several snow blades.

Hope things are good out there in Cub Cadet land. Looks like you have a great site here! (I have to monitor the maple trader forum too but will try to check in once in a while.)

Welcome to the site Chris. You won't find a better more informative cub site anywhere. I'm not to far from you I live in Clark PA right on the Shenango reservoir. Love the picture of you and your grandson. Congrats on the 73. Someday I hope to ad a 73 to my collection. Good luck with it when you tear into it hope it's just rings and a simple rebuild for you. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Looks like Cub owners are a good bunch.
Wow, several of you have a lot of Cubs! I try to have a plan to use most of mine for something around the yard. Sincie I dont own a four wheeler I use these to jump on and go look at the bees, and many other jobs.

Junior.. Yes I hope that the engine can be restored. The 12 horse in the 127 last year really runs strong after a complete rebuild. I don't know a thing about the 7 hp.
Is a 7 horse the smallest that IH used?
I really need to try to understand the model numbering system. I expected that the 73 model would look more like the 102 but instead it has the same grill and cast front shell as the 127.

I will try to start checking some of the threads to answer some of my questions.

I kind of feel like the 102 is Dorsey's tractor, he just turned two in September. The 127 is really my wife's because she loves the hydro! The 86 which is painted black right now:( is Grandson mikes. I think the 73 will be Marly's our three year old granddaughter. Those round fenders are growing on me:)

Might I suggest this book to help you with all of the number designations and meanings. I have it and am always reading it and using it for research.
