Tiller and Blower gearbox's the same??
I'm sure this topic has been brought up before but I couldn't find it. Are they the same, and if not, what is different? Thanks for the help. Got a blower that seen its better days, and would like to replace the gearbox on my tiller as it has alot of slop.

Tiller Ratio: 3:1
Snowthrower Ratio: 1:1 |
Roland-
I don't think all of the snowthrowers had the same ratio. I can tell you for sure that the QA36/42A do not have a 1:1 ratio in them. |
I was my findings that a tiller ratio was 1.5 to 1
and the thrower ratio was 2 to 1. for my QA42A. The Aluminum box or housing was the same, at least for my project. --open the box up and see if it is a bearing and or shaft problem. Although the gears are NLA,the bearings are and a shaft can be made if NLA. |
let me also add on the thrower box some, i think the older ones, are a 3 bolt mount like mine and most are a 4 bolt mount.

OK....the bottom line is this....The tiller has a slower gearbox than the snowthrower regardless of the specific ratios.

Thanks for the insight. I will tear into the bearing/shaft issue. It is interesting that the blower boxes can even be different. I would have never guessed that. Maybe have to look at a parts manual to see how different?

Gear box on QA42.
What is the best lube to use in the gearboxes on the blowers for winter? Have everything else ready for snowflakes. But would like to changeout the lube in the box. Thanks Kenny

Mine has 90W gear lube in it and works great.
