Wheel weights (what are they worth)
 

Just as the title says I found a set of IH wheel weights for my 147 locally and the guy wants $100 firm (he says hehe). My question is are they worth it? I can't seem to find much info on used ones. I plan on attending a few plow days in the spring and am starting the search for things now. I would even consider off brand weights if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Seems to be the going rate and even higher. Most want $125.

Wow thanks for the quick replys, I'll show my lack of knowledge here and ask how much they weigh?

I am not 100% sure, but I think in the neighborhood of 23 pounds each. That is why some guys use two per wheel and or also put fluid in their tires to increase weight.

They are 26 pounds a piece.

$100 is def the going rate these days. I found a set for $75 and about passed out. They are really hard to find around here a penny less the 100 so go for it. My 882 has 2 sets of weights and loaded tires with anitfreeze for the plowdays. Rarely looses traction

They are 26 lbs each, but honestly, if you're looking for weight to use, there are much more 'space-efficient' weights to be found. The IH weights don't weigh very much for how much space they take up. I have about 7 pairs of weights of various brands, including the IH weights. I only have the IH ones because they were free. The rest I have bought and I don't believe I have ever paid more than $50 for a pair, most of the time a lot less. I have a set of Bolens weights that are about 50 lbs. each that fit nicely in the wheel, upon which more weights of other brands can be stacked. You can get weights cheap if you are patient and willing to wait for a deal.

The most cost-effective option would be to buy a pair of tubes for the rear tires and fill them with washer fluid.

I also see you're in northern Illinois...me too...so auction prices, etc. should be close to what I'm stating. There was a set of IH weights on Chicago CL a couple weeks ago for $50/pair.

In my opinion they are not worth $100. But that is what they are selling for.

2 bucks a pound is really expensive for weight in my opinion. I admit I have a set of IH weights but I only paid $50 for them.

I would also suggest offbrand weights. I bought a set of nice looking homemade cast iron weights for the diesel. They weigh 38lbs a piece and I paid a total of 50.00. I'd keep looking and wait for a good deal if you're not in a hurry. I sold a set of IH weights to a friend and fellow cubber for 80.00 just because I wanted to cut somebody a good deal.
